Deliverables
Overdue reports block any and all actions on the subject award and any other award(s) for which the PI and co-PIs are listed as senior personnel.
Most NSF awards require submission of 4 different types of reports:
1. Annual Project Reports
2. Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR)/Ethics Training: only when there are students on the project
3. Final Project Reports
4. Project Outcomes Reports
When OSP receives your award and enters it into the system, these reports (deliverables) are also entered into the system, with the period they cover and their due dates. It is important that you review these entries for accuracy and completion. In WebWise, you can always see this information on the Deliverables tab, and if necessary, you can submit upcoming or outstanding reports. However, for your reference, below is a table that summarizes the reports for which you’re responsible when receiving an NSF Award

Why is this so important???
Failure to submit timely reports will delay NSF review and processing of pending proposals and processing of additional funding and administrative actions, including, but not limited to, no cost extensions for all identified PIs and co-PIs on a given award. In the case of continuing grants, failure to submit timely reports may delay processing of funding increments.
This warrants repeating:
Overdue reports block any and all actions on the subject award and any other award(s) for which the PI and co-PIs are listed as senior personnel.
To submit a project report to NSF, use the Research.gov site. Let us know if you have any trouble or questions about submitting the report via Research.gov. [You use your NSF login for Research.gov although the password requirements mandate the following characters – upper, lower, and a number]
Please contact any of us in OSP if you have any questions or concerns! The NSF notifications are in addition to the email notifications that you would receive from the OSP Deliverable System which contains the required report submission dates.
No-Cost Extensions
PIs can request and receive automatic approval for a Grantee Approved 12 month No-Cost Extension for NSF awards. This request should be submitted 10 days before the award expires and should include a justification for the request and explanation for how remaining funds will be expended. This request is submitted through Fastlane.
After the first year extension, PIs can request an NSF approved No-Cost Extension. This request should be submitted 45 days before the award expires and should include a justification for the request and explanation for how remaining funds will be expended. This request is also submitted through Fastlane but is not considered approved until such is indicated by the NSF.
It’s also important to keep in mind that if you submit a request and are approved for a No-Cost Extension, then the FINAL report that WOULD HAVE been due becomes an ANNUAL report that is now due. You should expect to submit a report (unless otherwise noted) every year of the award.
